Weather Policy
Purpose
To ensure the safety of all players, coaches, and spectators by providing guidelines for handling various weather conditions.
Weather Conditions and Policies
Rain: Games will proceed as scheduled in light to moderate rain. In the event of heavy rain that causes unsafe field conditions, games may be delayed, rescheduled, or canceled. Teams will be notified as soon as possible.
Thunderstorms and Lightning: The City of Canyon has a lightning strike detection system that will be strictly enforced. The system detects a strike within 10 miles of our location and will sound an alarm that lasts 30 minutes. Each new strike resets the timer. When the alarm sounds, all participants must return to their vehicles. Play will not resume until the all-clear signal is given. Games may be rescheduled or canceled based on league discretion.
Extreme Cold: Games will be canceled if the wind chill is below 15°F (-6°C). The league will make timely decisions to delay, reschedule, or cancel based on participant safety.
Heat: Games will proceed as scheduled. Players are encouraged to stay hydrated and take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
Snow: Games will continue if snow is light and fields remain playable. Heavy snowfall or icy conditions may lead to delays, rescheduling, or cancellations. Updates will be provided as quickly as possible.
High Winds: Games will be canceled if wind speeds continuously exceed 55 mph. Safety is the primary consideration, and decisions will be communicated promptly.
Notification Process
All weather-related decisions will be communicated to teams through email, Facebook, and the league's website. Teams are responsible for checking these platforms for updates.
Safety Precautions
Participants should dress appropriately for the weather. The league reserves the right to delay, cancel, or adjust games based on evolving weather conditions for the safety of everyone involved.
